This Pu’Erh is rich, dark, and sweet. Dripping with flavor, this exquisite tea is a rare treat.
The Brew Ha-Ha:
Pu’Erh stands apart from the other main types of tea (White, Green, Oolong, & Black) with its uncommonly soft, earthy flavor and woodsy tones, because it is aged. Pronounced “Poo-Err”, this rich, dark tea is aged like a fine wine, scotch, or bourbon in which the leaves of the Camellia Sinensis undergo a natural, microbial fermentation process called "wet piling” where the leaves darken, altering their flavor, before they are gently dried and stored for aging.
This creates a cup with zero astringency that is extraordinarily smooth with a deep, full body. Available in regular loose leaf or formed into multi-stylized decorative cakes, Pu’Erh is extremely versatile and can steep from 30 seconds to 30 minutes with varying amounts of water to extract a flavor to match anyone’s palette. It is also one the healthiest teas produced that benefits the body with Digestive Aid, which promotes Weight and Fat Loss, Cardiovascular Wellness, Anti-Bacterial Skin Health, Bone Health, Cognitive Improvement, Anxiety Reduction; it Decreases Blood Sugar, for Diabetes Management & Prevention, is packed with Antioxidants, and offers Pain Relief through its Anti-Inflammatory Properties.
Pu’Erh comes from the Yunnan province in China and derives its name from the market town in which it was first developed. This makes Pu’Erh Tea akin to the French beverage, Champagne, which also derived its name from the market town in which it was developed. So that teas that only come from this region can truly call themselves, Pu’Erh.
As a fermented tea, Pu’Erh are usually classified as a post-oxidation tea, or Dark Tea, with three types of processing methods which can give the tea a 50-year lifespan. Green Pu’Erhs are less processed before being pressed into cakes. Referred to as “Maocha” if unpressed and as “Bengs” if pressed. Though the flavors of Green Pu’Erhs are not as refined as their Dark counterparts, they are fairly inexpensive, gaining in popularity, and are known to age well for up to 30 years.
